What We Believe at Tumalo Community Church
We believe in the plenary, verbal inspiration of the scriptures
and that the Bible is the infallible and authoritative Word of
God to man.
(II Timothy 3:16-17,
II Peter 1:20-21 and
Psalms 19:7-11)
We believe in one true God, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;
the three Persons being equal in power and majesty, yet executing distinct, but harmonious offices.
(Psalms 90:2,
Matthew 3:13-17 and
Genesis 1:26-27)
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God, born of the virgin Mary,
conceived of the Holy Spirit, and that He is truly God and truly man; that He was born, lived,
died, arose from the dead, and is interceding at God’s right hand, according to the Scriptures.
(John 3:16,
Luke 1:26-35 and
Timothy 2:5)
We believe in the personality and power of the Holy Spirit; that He was sent into this world according
to the promise of the Father and the Son, to reprove the world of sin, and admonish of righteousness and
judgment to come; that He came to quicken, sanctify, and seal believers, and to guide us in all truth.
(John 16:13-15,
Genesis 1:2,
Acts 2:16-18,
John 14:16-18,
1 Corinthians 6:11, and
Ephesians 1:13-14)
We believe in one true Church – a living organism called in the Scriptures the Body and Bride of Christ,
a mystery in ages past, but now made known in the New Testament, and that all who are born again by saving
faith in Christ are members of that Church, of which Jesus Christ is the only foundation. We believe, moreover,
that the great commission given to the disciples, “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,” is the great commission to the Church today,
for those disciples, on the day of Pentecost, became members of the Church.
(Matthew 16:18,
Ephesians 1:22-23,
5:25-30,
1 Corinthians 3:11,
Mark 16:15, and
Matthew 29:19)
We believe in the personality and diabolical cunning of Satan, who is also called the devil,
and that he is the arch-enemy of God, and the deceiver of mankind.
(Isaiah 14:12-17,
Matthew 4:2-11,
2 Corinthians 4:3-4, and
1 Peter 5:8)
We believe in the total depravity of man, and that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God,
and without Christ, are lost.
(Romans 3:19, and
Isaiah 53:6)
We believe that the one and only hope for lost mankind is in the blood atonement of the
Lord Jesus Christ at Calvary, and that the life and death of Christ were not merely exemplary, but substitutionary.
(Leviticus 17:11,
Hebrews 9:22, and
1 Peter 2:24,
3:18)
We believe that men are justified and saved, not by meritorious works, but on the single
ground of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His finished work.
(Titus 3:5,
Ephesians 2:8-9, and
Romans 3:28,
5:1)
We believe that God has become the Author of Eternal Salvation to all who have been justified
through faith in Christ, that they are saved forever, and that nothing can separate them from
the love of God which is in Christ Jesus, our Lord.
(Hebrews 5:9,
Romans 8:38-39,
John 10:27-30, and
Ecclesiastes 3:14)
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ instituted the ordinances of baptism and the
Lord’s Supper to be observed by born-again believers. The Lord set the example of
Baptism by immersion to be observed once, after conversion, as an outward sign or
testimony of an inward work of grace. He ordained the Lord’s Supper to be observed
continuously until He comes.
(Acts 8:34-39,
Romans 6:4,
Ephesians 4:5, and
1 Corinthians 11:23-29)
We believe that the spirit departs to be with Christ there to abide with Him in conscious
bliss and rejoicing forever, and that the spirit of every unbeliever is forever banished
from the Lord, in a conscious condition of remorse and punishment.
(2 Corinthians 5:8,
Philippians 1:23,
John 14:1-3,
Psalms 9:17,
Luke 6:19-26, and
Revelation 20:11-15,)
We believe that the next great event in the fulfillment of prophecy is the personal,
bodily return of the Lord to remove from the earth His waiting Church, and to reward
them according to their works.
(John 14:2-3,
Romans 14:10-12,
1 Corinthians 3:11-15,
15:51-53,
2 Corinthians 5:10,
1 Thessalonians 4:15-17,
5:9,
Titus 2:11-13,
Revelation 3:10, and
Acts 1:11)
We believe that after this removal from the Earth, the righteous judgments of God will
be poured out upon the unbelieving world. These judgments will be climaxed by the return
of Christ in glory to the Earth.
(Daniel 2:1,
2:9-7,
Jeremiah 30:7,
Matthew 24:15-46,
2 Thessalonians 2:7-12, and
Revelation 6:1-19,
21:1-27)
We believe that after this judgment, Christ will establish His Messianic Kingdom in
which the resurrection saints will reign with Him over Israel and all the nations of the earth.
(Deuteronomy 30:1-10,
Isaiah 11:1-16,
65:11-25,
Ezekiel 37:21-28,
Revelation 14:1-20,
19:11,
20:1-6,
Zechariah 14:9,
Luke 14:1-20, and
Daniel 2:44,
7:24-27)
We believe that after the dissolution of the present heaven and earth at the end
of the Millennium, God will inaugurate a New Heaven and a New Earth. As God created
the present heavens and earth to be the scene of His theocratic display, so will God
inaugurate the New Heavens and Earth to be the scene of the eternal theocratic Kingdom
of God.
(Isaiah 65:17,
2 Peter 3:13, and
Revelation 21:1)
We believe in view of these things that each Christian should consider the following:
“What manner of persons ought we to be in all holy conversation and godliness.”
We believe, that as Christians, we should follow Christ, even as He commanded,
and that as followers of Christ, we must abstain from all appearance of evil, ceasing
to allow those things which cause our brothers to stumble, to be offended, or to be
made weak, and at all times, seek “to walk worthy of the vocation wherewith we are called.”
(2 Peter 3:11, and
Ephesians 4:1)
